But that option does not exist "system-wide" (or does it nowadays?) and
that would mean setting it for each program/series you schedule.
BTW: why would a card ever need a 10 minute "warm-up" or "cool-down"
phase, we're not talking nucleair reactors here or something ;-)

Not saying that you are wrong but I do know that when I implemented
postroll (preroll already existed) it was absolutely meant to have 1
place in the system where you could tell MythTV to start early or end late.

You must also be aware of the difference between the two systems:
pre/postroll is an _indication_ that it would be best to allow for some
time before and after the program while Start Early/End Late is an
_obligation_, the scheduler _must_ start recording early/end late. (or
have the rules changed?)

At this moment I have a 5 minute pre-roll and a 10 minute post-roll
although my girlfriend would prefer it at something like 30 minutes (and
I must say I was surprised when the other day I tried to increase the
postroll to >10 mins and wasn't able to). Using the End Late for this
would mean missing other programs that record almost back-to-back on
different channels (and even on the same channel a 30 min part of the
next program would mistakingly have the name of the previous program).
Of course with pre/postroll the problem doesn't disappear completely but
for me it works well enough.

Cheers,
