[mythtv] Extending mythnotify to show OSD also when not in live-tv mode ?

Hi,

I'm trying to send some home automation messages (and other notifications)
to mythtv TV screen. But would also like to notify user in other modes
(mythmusic, menus, ...). I wonder if anyone has done anything in this
direction ?

I will probably try to implement smoe kind of short menu (like should I do
this? with Yes and No for answers)

I plan to use Xosd for my needs, but will not look so nice when comparing to
native mythtv support.
