You can apply the xvmc efficiency patch and see if it helps playback.
The hdtv recorder patch is more experimental, it's really only for
people having problems getting one of their HDTV channels, or for
anyone wanting to work on getting the guide data in the stream or
alternate languages, subtitles, etc. The xvmc surface check patch is a
bugfix patch that only helps the few people that are using a particular
xinerama setup (using the XFree86 xinerama extension, not the nvidia
driver's xinerama extension).
