Another possibility could be to start looking up the hierarchy for
pictures.
So if GENRE/ARTIST/ALBUM doesn't have an image just look for it in
GENRE/ARTIST and after that in GENRE and after that in the root where
you could put you own personal "missing cover" image and last but not
least a hard-coded image (or themable if you want) in myth music itself.
