This was definitely my problem.  The 'bluecurve' Qt theme just wasn't
putting enough emphasis on the focused widget.  For those of you with
the same trouble, you can select your theme by running the 'qtconfig'
application.  

Thank you Isaac, this has been bugging me for some time.  Sorry about
misspelling your name as well.

Understood.  I'll probably still submit patches in the future to allow
the same settings via mythweb to give users another option.
