I find there is a lot of paging up and down (and to a lesser extent back
and forth), even with the artistsplit level in the tree.

I posted my ideas this morning. 

I'm trying not to come across as just whining and moaning or requesting
that any one else implement the ideas. I'm ramping up to code it myself
at the moment (getting myth, mfd compiled from CVS etc).

I don't really think the current interface is bad or anything (it's
fine) but I do think that there can be improvements, although I guess
the proof will be in the pudding once I've tried them out...
