[mythtv] Missing "recording_options" element (all themes)

It seems that no matter what theme I use, I receive the following error
when attempting to record, or change the recording profile, etc, from
anywhere (fix conflicts, program finder, etc.):

"The theme you are using does not contain a 'recording_options' element,
please contact the theme creator and ask if they could please update it.

The next screen will be empty Press EXIT to return to the main menu."
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pertinent Background information:
I was running mythtv 0.15 with the pvr-350 on the same hardware with
slackware as the OS two days ago.
I am currently running mythtv 0.16 with the same hardware, on Debian
unstable.

The database was backed up and restored successfully.  None of the
existing themes work, and the most recently updated one was updates on
5-28-04 (according to: http://mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythThemes)
whereas this version of myth was released on Friday, September 10.

My point is simple:  I don't think that the themes should all be left
out of date when a new release arrives, even the default themes does not
allow me to record anything.

I can probabably fix this by changing something in the mysql database,
but I liked the recording options screen the way it was in 0.15 and I
hope that I can get that back.  I see no where to change the recording
options screen to a more basic layout.  I had been using the detailed
view.

Can someone please:
1) Tell me how to make my machine work the way it is supposed to by
telling me exactly what to change in the database
2) fix this problem for future releases

For the record, I've tried the following themes (and assumed the rest
won't work either):
G.A.N.T
blue
visor
