I've wanted this functionality before as well when I've seen a listing
for an episode that I didn't want to record.  Your method works great 
for this since I'm not likely to want to record that episode in the future 
either.  

However, if the recording is being suppressed for reasons like the one
you gave (you wanted to give another episode or show higher priority),
then my concern is that the episode that you suppressed will not be 
recorded if it is available again at a later date.  Barring, of course, 
going in and manually clearing the oldrecorded table of that entry after 
the episode you wanted was recorded.

I'd say that it's worthwhile the way you have it, but if a method could
be devised to easily suppress just a single airing of a show, that
would be a valuable option as well.
