Why don't you look at using some of the DVB code?  It really does sound like the whole thing is very similar?  You could acquire ts2ps conversion, pid extraction and all sorts of other stuff this way?

Kenneth has also got a rather neat channel editor under development as well which would probably be very useful...  

In DVB there is the concept of a serviceid, which I think is basically what you are filtering on here?
