Look through the devel lists again.  Someone posted a simple way to have 
mythvideo play dvd's.  They added an action in the mythvideo config to play a 
dvd and then an (empty?- don't remember.. it was very small at least)) file 
in the mythvideo directory that would get used to trigger the play dvd 
action.
