I think you should be able to add
#define wsF2            0xbf + 256

to libs/libmythtv/tv_play.cpp

and then change wsEscape to wsF2 within the file.  That should let
you see if it's the escape key, and ensure that there isn't a
collision between the WM (which may intercept F1 as help).
