Yup. I completely agree. You had said you weren't sure how to handle 
configuration of a prefered server and I thought a priority system would 
be most flexible for the future. The actual configuration could be as 
simple as a radio button:
"This system should handle transcoding:
0 Always
0 Usually
0 Often
0 Sometimes (if all other backends are busy)
0 Never
"

If two backends are set to the same value, pick the one that's the 
fastest/least loaded.

But, you're absolutly right, getting it working is higher priority than 
a distributed transcoding system.
