Hey,

How about just editing the tvmenu.xml file and commenting out (or deleting)
the <button> ... </button> section for the TV type?

Just do this:

<!--
   <button>
      <type>TV</type>
      <text>Watch TV</text>
      <action>TV_WATCH_LIVE</action>
   </button>
-->

This file would normally be in your /usr/local/share/mythtv folder.

Try it.  Worked for me!

JC
