Hi all, I'm not sure if my suspicians are correct, but I think mythtv cvs from a few days ago defaults to recording from Television input even if you specify S-Video as the input for playback. So I had to connect a coax cable from the cable box to the Television connector of my WinTV card. Thanks, IvanK.
