[mythtv] Questions about .8

Hi all just started using this application and I absolutely love it.  I
started with .7 and last night switched to .8 from cvs. Seeing that there
is now a back end and a front end for this made me think.  Does the front
end still need to be running for scheduled recording?
I have not had a chance to look around much in the code but thought this
might be a good place to ask. Currently i am running the front end in a
second instance of X to make sure everything records.  However It would
be nice if I could just keep the backend running in the background and
only fireup the front end when I want to watch a recording.
