[mythtv] problems with 0.7 locking up

alsactl reports a version of 0.9.0rc6

my whole myth setup works great except for one thing.
if i have something set to record over night, my computer usually ends up 
locking up completely.
i am suspicious of some power saving feature causing the problem, but it 
doesn't happen every time, and i have power saving turned off in kde.
when i return to my computer in the morning, the screen is blank, and the 
computer totally unresponsive, i'm forced to a cold boot.

the show that was set to record show up in the recorded shows, but i've 
just discovered that i have 21 .nuv files in my myth dir but only 17 
entries
in the recorded table of the database.

is anyone else experiencing this problem, and how can i further 
investigate this?

plus, what do i need to do in the database to get myth to play those other 
.nuv files that don't have an entry in the recorded table?
