You know, you are EXACTLY right.  I used to use SnapStream under windows and I 
had my qualities tailored just right for 2 per CD, 3 per CD, 4 per CD, 2:15, 2:30,2:45 
(for movies).  I distinctly remember that the magic number for a 700MB CD was right 
at a total of (time, in hours) * (video Kb/s + audio Kb/sec) = 1600. 
 
Just checked, my default is 400x304, 1569brate, max=2,min=2, diff=3.  I DO have 
[scale bitrate for framesize] checked, however, I really havent' dug into what it 
does...that would probably be a good idea to check on :)
