[mythtv] audio crackling when playing back mythtv files w/ mplayer

I built mplayer pre 10 with the nuppelvideo patch.. it is playing the files.. 
but the audio sounds HORRIBLE.  I am running mythtv .7 (and can't wait for 
all the new features in .8!)
