Didn't seem to help much.  I left it in, though, since it didn't seem
to hurt.

I finally got around to coding and testing Kevin's proposed fix for
the firmware/driver problem and it works.  The change is pretty
pervasive, though, so I'm not going to include it in my ivtv patch.
