[mythtv] Alternate/TiVo EPG on screen format (WAS: UIManagedTreeListType)

avalonforest at centurytel.net recently wrote about a new UI widget for
a TiVo video display module:

Seeing this widget inspired a broader question: has anyone done any
work on alternate views for the EPG? I've been a TiVo owner for several
years, and have grown quite accustomed to their side-by-side view of
program data.

Any insights into what it would take to implement something like a TiVo
- or even others - version of the EPG?
