Yes.  There are lircrc config files in the configfiles/ directory.

I believe that the developers are planning for that to happen,
eventually.  That way, you can have one or more backend servers doing
the encoding, and then frontend viewers.

Performance testing / number of users will probably need to wait
until the total seperation of frontend/backend.  At that point,
variables like disk speed, network speed, etc will come into play.
