Well, if thats what you want... checkout /etc/X11/(x|w)dm/Xservers. You
can add :1 there  and then maintain two different users. One "mythtv"
user that runs mythfrontend on login possibly with no wm at all and your
regular login. You can specify a different XFConfig file or screen
arrangement from the "X" commandline in that Xservers file.

Just remember that the 0.8 release won't need to have mythfrontend
running all the time to record.
