[mythtv] MPEG-2 by default?

I'm trying to write MPEG-2 files (instead of MPEG-4 or MJPEG) by 
default.

Why would I do this, you ask?

Well, what I really want to do is dump programs to a DVD (for sharing, 
viewing on another system, archiving, etc.). I already know how to 
create a Video DVD using MPEG-2 files and I could save myself the 
encoding time by having MythTV write files straight to MPEG-2.

If there are any pointers to doing this or people who've done it, 
please speak up.
