I've done a tiny bit of investigating, and found that mplayer can only
decode video frames with a 'comptype' of 0.  rtjpeg-encoded files (at
least from my installation) produce files that largely have video frames
with comptypes of 1 and 2.  mplayer apparently can't decode those
frames, and leaves a black or frozen image.

I can't figure much else out, though..  I'm definitely not a codec
person ;-)
