 As part of ticket cleanup, I am going to recommend that this ticket be
 closed.

 The first part of the patch (the important part) was applied 4 years ago,
 and the second part turned into a discussion that was never resolved.
 Since the second part was always optional, and at this point it is less
 likely to be especially useful for those that have kept up to date with
 MythTV versions, it is time to let this ticket be retired.
