 An approach will be to do what I had abandoned as even more complex and
 likely error prone, and that was to look at utilizing the
 QMAKE_EXTRA_COMPILERS capabilities.  I will add it to my list to
 reconsider, but realistically I am not going to be able to even look at it
 for quite a few weeks.
