 Thanks for that! But will NVDEC work on my ancient ION hardware ?

 I am just also confused that the playback will fall back to software when
 playing back recordings, but will work fluently when watching LiveTV from
 the same HD channel ?

 And if it is the change in format of the stream that makes ffmpeg fail,
 what prevents us from reopening the
 ffmpeg VDPAU decoder using the new format when it fails as it seems to be
 perfectly cabable of doing the decoding if you start at the right point?

 If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.
