 The bit where it says 'invert if first filter' concerns me too.

 I think this is the current problem, esp for linux.

 1. height is being used to do maths on top and bottom. Should be height -
 1.
 2. visible height is being used in one place and display in the other
 branch. This should be consistent I would have though.
