 I still cannot see the problem. I renamed your files sample5.mkv and
 sample5.srt to "The Sample5.mkv" and "The Sample5.srt" and still the
 subtitles are working. I searched my library for other moves with "The"
 and with srt files. I found one, and I tested it and subtitles are
 working. The subtitle file name has to exactly match the mkv file name.

 If the word "The" is causing problems it may be something to do with
 translation. Do you use it with English or Polish as the language? You
 could try setting the language to English and see if that changes the
 problem. I tried setting the language to Polish and the subtitles seemed
 to be working but I was struggling to understand the menus so I could not
 do much.

 When you set the language to Polish does it still sort "The Glass Castle"
 with the "G" titles or does it sort it with "T" ? I assume that "The" is
 not a valid Polish word and should not be treated specially if you have
 selected Polish language.
