 I'm hesitant to interrupt here, but I'm running Master with systems built
 using a lightly patched version of Richard's rpm specfile and most of my
 scheduling is done from the EIT programme guide, quite often in near real
 time.  It all just works.  One difference may be that I have always run
 the backend and frontend in KDE konsole tabs with nothing autostarted.
 That applies to my 'buntu system as well.  I'm willing to try simple tests
 if that might help.
