#12794: Installation using Ubuntu 16.04 Software Centre fails

MythTV worked perfectly until I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 with XFCE and
upgraded my MythTV to the latest stable release. It then was unstable and
lacked the ability to select view the program guide before watching TV
when you select Watch TV. When you fast forwarded a recording, MythTV
would frequently crash. If left unattended for any period of time, the
screen saver would activate, despite the fact xscreensaver was set to
disabled, and then it would not respond to touching the keyboard. The
only way to escaped was to hold down the power button until the machine
turned off. (It was possible to enter another terminal window but it was
not possible to start XFCE.
I therefore decided to do a completely clean install and installed the
MythTV backend. Previously, in the Ubuntu Software Centre it was possible
to install the combined front and back end in one installation. Now it is
split so I installed the backend first.
When you run the backend for the first time, it provides a gaily coloured
screen to allow users to select their country. It then moves on to
various configuration pages. When you reach the end of these and select
Finish, it takes you back to the gaily coloured page asking you to select
your country. Pressing cancel to exit does not work. You are trapped in
a loop. The only way to exit is to hold down the on/off button of the
computer and wait until it shuts down.
The same problem occurs with the front end.
MythTV is unusable as packaged by Ubuntu.
Not sure if the problem rests with Ubuntu but felt I should report it to
you. Trying to report anything to Ubuntu is very difficult.
