Comment (by myth@…):

 Similar issue -  mythcommflag was failing with "*** glibc detected ***
 /usr/bin/mythcommflag: invalid fastbin entry (free): 0xb6249b38 ***"
 errors.

 Backend is an older Fedora 14 server.  Problem appears to be glibc -- see
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=593396

         #yum upgrade glibc

 solved it for me.
