 Hmph, I was just thinking about posting a comment to this ticket to close
 it as it's now pretty easy to control a rotor through via script attached
 to the RecStarted event.

 It's better than code too, a while ago I switched my rotor input from an
 HDHR to an HVR-1600 and only had to touch the script's cardID test. System
 events has to be one of the all-time great changes!
