Comment:

 I believe this was fixed in trunk (by Gavin on 3rd December) by the
 removal of popen(), and I am closing this. See
 [https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/eb71341f eb71341f].

 If there is strong demand (on mailing list please), I will try to backport
 to fixes/0.23.
