 That's a decent kludge, but there's got to be a better way than a spinlock
 /poll-type sleep.  Of course, I'll take 10% over 100% anytime :-)   Of
 course, this all used to work perfectly with NO load when paused, so
 finding out what changed would be best.

 I'm using nouveau drivers, xv-blit, pulseaudio.  I used to use the binary
 nvidia drivers, but not since my last fedora upgrade.
