 It was recently pointed out on the users list

 that this issue is tied to the Nvidia GPU.  I did some testing myself and
 found that my conclusion about the display resolution in the above comment
 was not correct.  In fact, the mini with the older Intel GMA950
 (originally connected to the LCD monitor) get smooth 720p playback
 regardless of display.  The newer mini, with the Nvidia GPU, generates the
 dropping frame messages during 720p playback.

 Surprising, since Nvidia GPU's are typically recommended for MythTV.  I
 have one in my Ubuntu 10.10 frontend and it works flawlessly.
