Comment (by mythtv@…):

 frontend log shows lines saying "LoadBestPreferences(720x576, 60)". The
 file being played back is 720x576i50, and there is no 60Hz 720x576 mode.
 Perhaps the automatic resolution change works only when there is a 60Hz
 version of the mode.
