Comment:

 Mythtv doesn't need a window manager, the third party applications (e.g.
 Mplayer) you choose to use with mythtv might but those are optional and
 mostly unnecessary. However as has been pointed out to you, there is no
 harm at all in running a window manager - anyone who tells you otherwise
 is an idiot.
