 The new patch changes the following:

 - thread safety related fixes and enhancements

 - documentation updates

 - optimizations to the DiskWriter thread

 The patch still has some rough edges which I am going to address in a
 future updates. But I think it is in a state now where it can be safely
 tested (no guarantees though). It might not be the most efficient version
 yet but I am getting there once everything is in place.
