 I should add that I run the same mythtv revision, on the same computer,
 with the same mythconverg database, but without any playback problems when
 I boot into openSUSE 10.3. The two major differences: the kernel version
 (2.6.22.18 vs. 2.6.27) and the graphics card driver (ati's fglrx vs.
 Xorg's radeon).
