Comment:

 The original patch/functionality behaved in the way you describe, watched
 recordings could only manually be set un-watched but this caused more
 problems than it solved. e.g. Users editing recordings, multi-person
 household and users starting to re-watch a watched recording were all
 caught out because recordings were expired early.

 It was determined that in most use cases users would not start watching a
 recording from the beginning and still expect the recording to be marked
 as 'watched' if they hadn't reached the end. It's easier for the minority
 to manually mark a recording watched than it is for everyone to remember
 they need to 'un-watch' a recording.
