 I'd like to add that I am also a Gentoo user with gcc-4.3.1 installed, and
 I am having similar problems. My compile reaches moc_hdhrsignalmonitor.cpp
 before the CPU gets pegged and the hard drive spins hard. I left the
 compile alone at this point for over an hour and it would not proceed. My
 PVR runs amd64 on a Core 2 Duo. Very conservative CFLAGS (-march=nocona
 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer).
