 I'm using horizontal overscan (at 2%) to remove the hazy sides of TV
 capture. I just started using the Internal player but noticed that the
 highlighted text in DVD menus is shifted to the side. After a little
 fiddling with settings I noticed the problem disappeared when I turned off
 the overscan.

 I think that sums up the problem nicely, and it should be readily
 reproducible. If a screen shot would help clarify let me know and I'll
 provide one.

 We probably need some means to turn off over/under scan while in DVD
 playback
