 To get you the info you want do I need to reinstall my frontend and or
 server with the source code and manually build?  I have just updated my
 system (both backend and frontend) to Mythbuntu 7.10.

 If so can you point me to a url with instructions to backup/replace my
 existing system(s).  thanks.

 Is there a way to manually launch the Internal player from outside of
 mythtv?  That might make it easier to track down the issue.

 Here is some additional info on the issue:

 Problem:

 Normal DVD's with DTS audio play properly with no issues.

 Xvid files with Dolby Digital audio play properly with no issues.

 Tried the following combinations all with similar results

 Xvid files played from the backend (with spaces in file name) with DTS
 audio and subtitles (idx/sub)[[BR]]
 Xvid files played from the frontend stored locally (with no spaces in file
 name) with DTS audio and no subtitles (idx/sub)[[BR]]

 Things I saw:[[BR]]
 -play at a fast rate with no audio outputed and if you try to skip the
 mythtv frontend locks up and then after a period of time crashes sending
 me to the desktop[[BR]]
 -play at a fast rate with clicking audio and if you try to skip the mythtv
 frontend locks up and then after a period of time crashes sending me to
 the desktop[[BR]]
 -play at a fast rate with noise audio (almost like white noise) and if you
 try to skip the mythtv frontend locks up and then after a period of time
 crashes sending me to the desktop[[BR]]
 -immediately crashes mythtv frontend and sends me to the desktop[[BR]]
 -locks up to a black screen and then after a period of time crashes mythtv
 frontend and sends me to the desktop[[BR]]

 mplayer results: [[BR]]

 works fine from backend with subtitles - mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv
 -ao alsa:device=spdif -ac hwdts, %s[[BR]]

 no audio outputed - mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv %s[[BR]]
 Configuration:[[BR]]

 Frontend:[[BR]]
 Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard[[BR]]
 using onboard video and audio[[BR]]
 video connected to TV using DVI connection, resolution 1920x1080[[BR]]
 audio connected using optical audio cable[[BR]]
 1GB RAM[[BR]]

 Install of Mythbuntu 7.10 AMD64[[BR]]
 -using proprietary nvidia (new) drivers.[[BR]]
 -Connected to network/backend using wireless card with WPA
 encryption[[BR]]
 -proprietary atheros drivers loaded[[BR]]
 -Proprietary Codec:[[BR]]
    -w64codecs enabled[[BR]]
    -libdvdcss2 enabled[[BR]]
    -ffmpeg enabled[[BR]]


 Mythtv Audio Settings:[[BR]]
 Audio output device: ALSA:cards.pcm.iec958[[BR]]
 Passthrough output device: ALSA:iec958:{ AES0 0x02 }[[BR]]
 Enable AC3 to SPDIF passthrough - checked[[BR]]
 Enable DTS to SPDIF passthrough - checked[[BR]]
 Use internal volume controls checked[[BR]]
 Mixer Device: default[[BR]]
 Mixer Controls: PCM[[BR]]
