Comment:

 I meant to ask a clarification - is it during the playing of the DVD
 (Princess Bride? Inconceivable), or the in-between monitoring, that the
 drive is too noisy?

 If the latter, then that is to be expected. It is only during the playing
 that the speed change is enacted.
