 You're right it's not the best solution, but it's a solution which avoids
 fixing all the other areas of mythtv which were affected when locking was
 used.

 If the patch works for everyone who is having this problem, then it will
 suffice for now and if necessary I can open a new ticket as a reminder of
 a lack of locking in mythobservable.
