Comment:

 Daniel,

 Don't spend any time on this.  There is a chance that my 3rd HD3000 got
 into a bad state, and that was causing the problem.

 Pulling the card out, rebooting, then putting the card back in may have
 fixed the problem.  I should know in a few days.
