 I've noticed that ALSA, unlike OSS, doesn't completely mute the sound.  It
 is still faintly audible when "muted".  This patch fixes that by switching
 off the sound when the volume is zero.  For joined controls it checks that
 all the channels have zero volume before switching off.  The assumption of
 two channels and the relevant comment are copied from volumebase.cpp .
