 Mine just fails every time.

 Tested my hypothesis above ; alas, it seems that either PS recording is no
 longer supported, or requires PMT to be present, because I get PMT not set
 errors if I patch sigmon off and then set the card to dvb_tsrecord = 0

 I might think about starting a thread on the DVB drivers list to discuss
 this, or maybe just direct them here :-)
