New description:

 Currently, I am watching MythTV 6 hours behind livetv.  If I pause this
 for a while, come back.. watch a bit.. and then hit skip or ff, it takes
 upwards of 10 minutes for Myth to skip 30 seconds ahead.

 Clearly this has something to do with the size of the ringbuffer, and I
 see the changes being made to LiveTV currently.  This bug report is mainly
 meant to show that people do pause livetv (and I do frequently!) and come
 back hours later..

 Hopefully the new ringbuffer method will help in this respect..
